An AC EV charger, also known as an "AC charging station," is a device that provides electric power to recharge the battery of an electric vehicle (EV). It is connected to the power grid and can be located both in public places and at private properties, such as homes or businesses.

AC EV chargers come in various sizes and shapes, ranging from small 6 kW wall-mounted units for home use to larger 50 kW units for public charging. The charger utilizes Alternating Current (AC) to convert power from the grid to Direct Current (DC), which is used by the electric vehicle’s battery system.

To charge an EV using an AC charger, the driver plugs the vehicle into the charging station using a compatible charging cable and connector. Most EVs have an onboard charging system that allows them to accept AC electrical power at varying levels, usually between 6 kW and 22 kW.
